Universitas Negeri Malang prides
itself as the only Indonesian state-run university whose foundations, vision,
mission and purpose aim to help it earn the status of “The Learning
University,” by which UM carries out its dual mission as a Learning
Organization and Learning Resource.

The history of Universitas Negeri
Malang (UM) which dates back to 1954 when it started its debut as a budding
tertiary education institution is the oldest and highly credible university in
Malang. During the recent decades the university has grown and flourished
tremendously; the campus which is strategically located in the hub of the city
boasts its huge building and facilities that support and encourage the students
to excel academically and be the top achiever in every walk of life.

As part of the effort to earn the
coveted reputation of “The Learning University,” the entire civitas academica at UM are working hard to bring their learning
spirit in various projects of academic, technological and artistic development
and the fruit of their labor are evident in numerous innovations, curriculum
developments and empowerment of resources, managerial systems, information and
communication system development as well as relentless efforts to strengthen
staff members’ religious faith and morality through hard skill and soft skill
developments and trainings.

On its 65^th anniversary, UM is committed to keep on
improving and seeking to live up to the dream of making itself “the Indonesian
Guru, Renowned Worldwide.”
