This event will be held on Wednesday (May 20) at the Graha Tirta Building.

The performance is not merely an academic agenda, but also demonstrates how students are able to combine artistic creativity, performance management, and cross-generational collaborative work on a large-scale art stage.

More than 200 students are involved in the performance. Students from the class of 2023 will perform as presenters of work through seven dance performances and seven music performances. Meanwhile, students from the class of 2024 take on roles as the management, production, and event organizer team. This collaboration strengthens the integration of artistic and managerial skills, which are the core competencies of UM performing arts students.

A lecturer in Performing Arts Education at UM, Dra. Endang Wara Suprihatin Dyah Pratamawati, M.Pd., explained that this annual performance is an implementation of a practice-based curriculum as well as part of the execution of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.

“This performance serves not only as an academic evaluation but also as a space for students to develop comprehensive skills in the world of performing arts,” she stated.

She added that the activity is part of the Final Semester Examination (UAS) for the Performing Arts Presentation and Performing Arts Performance Management and Production courses. Students are not only required to create works but also to understand the process of professional art production with an entrepreneurial orientation.

Through the theme Infinity Fraternus, students present collaborative dance and music performances that highlight Indonesia’s cultural diversity. Cultural elements from East Java, Central Java, West Java, Bali, Kalimantan, Sumatra, to Eastern Indonesia are packaged in artistic interpretations that are modern, harmonious, and meaningful.

The theme was inspired by a reinterpretation of the wayang characters Nakula and Sadewa, who represent the balance of two perspectives on life. The message of boundless brotherhood between generations is reinforced through the slogan Two Souls, One Horizon, which emphasizes that differences can be a strength to achieve common goals.

The Chairperson of the 17th Performing Arts Performance Committee, Nuzulul Syifaillah Alfarisi, considers this activity to be a real laboratory for students to learn how to build professional art productions.

“This performance serves as a real learning space for students to integrate creativity, management, and teamwork into a complete art production. Furthermore, this activity is also expected to increase public appreciation for the performing arts,” he said.

The 17th UM Performing Arts Performance is also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 4 regarding quality education, Goal 8 regarding decent work and creative economic growth, and Goal 11 regarding cultural preservation and sustainable communities. Through an art stage based on cultural collaboration, UM strives to strengthen the creative industry ecosystem while producing a young generation that is innovative, adaptive, and competitive in the field of Indonesian performing arts.

Reporter: Inayah Amalia Taufani – UM Public Relations Internship
Photographer: Naksatra Lokasadu Wardhana – UM Public Relations Internship
Editor: Muhammad Salmanudin Hafizh Shobirin – UM Public Relations

Malang – The Performing Arts Education Study Program, Department of Art and Design, Faculty of Letters, Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) is once again presenting the 17th Performing Arts Performance titled Infinity Fraternus (Two Souls, One Horizon).
