Malang β Universitas Negeri Malang has become the center of international research attention after being entrusted to host the International Conference on Magnetism and Its Applications (ICMIA) 2026, which took place on Thursday-Friday (May 21β22) at Graha Cakrawala UM. The international conference brought together magnetism researchers, physicists, academics, and students from various countries to discuss the latest developments in magnetic technology and its applications for the advancement of global industry and science.
ICMIA 2026 serves as a strategic platform for scientists to strengthen international research networks while accelerating scientific innovation based on magnetism. This scientific forum also featured members of the Indonesian Magnetics Society (IMS) along with participants from Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, and Thailand.
The Chair of ICMIA 2026, Ahmad Taufiq, affirmed that the conference is an important venue for researchers to discuss cutting-edge issues concerning magnetic phenomena, magnetic materials, and the development of magnetism-based technologies relevant to the needs of modern industry.
βICMIA 2026 invites all IMS members, including students, to participate and share their research related to magnetism and magnetic materials. This conference facilitates the exchange of information to foster mutual understanding and strengthen collaboration among participants,β he stated.
He explained that this year’s conference places significant emphasis on strengthening theoretical and experimental achievements in the field of magnetism and other related systems. According to him, these researches have great potential to support the development of energy, health, electronics, and advanced material technologies in the future.
Beyond being an academic forum, ICMIA 2026 also reinforces UM’s position as a hub for global scientific collaboration. The presence of international participants makes this conference a space for cross-country idea exchange, fostering the birth of new innovations in science and technology.
This conference marks its fourth installment, having previously been held in Solo, Bali, and Yogyakarta. This year, Malang City was chosen as the venue, with UM serving as the host for this prestigious international conference.
Through the organization of ICMIA 2026, UM demonstrates its commitment to supporting global research development and enhancing the quality of higher education based on innovation. This step also aligns with the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 on quality education, Goal 9 on innovation and industry, and Goal 17 on global partnerships for sustainable development.
