Beijing — The Graduate School (SPs) of Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) continues to expand its international network through a strategic cooperation with Tianjin University of Technology and Education (TUTE), China. This meeting, held on Wednesday (April 8), marks a concrete step in strengthening global collaboration in vocational education that is adaptive to industrial developments.

The SPs UM delegation was led by Prof. Yusuf Hanafi, Vice Director, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Toto Nusantara (Head of the S2 and S3 Basic Education Study Programs) and Dr. Slamet Arifin (Head of the Quality Assurance Unit). The delegation was warmly welcomed by TUTE Vice President, Prof. Dr. Mi Jing, who served as the main representative from TUTE.

The event began with an introductory session from both parties, conducted in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Subsequently, Prof. Dr. Mi Jing presented an overview of the institution’s profile, the excellence of its vocational education, and the strategic role of the Center of the China-Shanghai Cooperation Organization (CSCO) Vocational and Technical Education Cooperation Center in building cross-country vocational education networks.

On this occasion, Dr. Wang Heng’an (Director of the Research and Development Department of CSCO VTEC) also shared insights regarding strengthening research and innovation within the framework of international collaboration.

Meanwhile, the presentation from UM was delivered by Dr. Slamet Arifin, who outlined various strategic cooperation opportunities, including student and lecturer exchange programs, research collaboration, and the development of joint degree programs. In addition, various funding schemes available at UM to support international cooperation were presented, both through internal UM funding and financial support from ministries and global partners.

The discussion was dynamic and productive, resulting in several initial understandings regarding the direction and focus of future collaboration. This cooperation is expected not only to enhance the academic quality of both institutions but also to broaden the international experience for the academic community.

Tommy Tanu Wijaya, Ph.D. from Beijing Normal University (BNU) was also present, acting as a facilitator and interpreter in bridging the initiation of this cooperation. His role was key in establishing effective communication between both parties. Through this meeting, SPs UM and TUTE are optimistic that they can build a sustainable strategic partnership and make a real contribution to the development of vocational education at the global level.
