Poor. In order to support the international program "Green Chemistry", namely environmentally friendly Chemistry, the Department of Chemistry, State University of Malang (UM) held a guest lecture on Small Scale Chemistry delivered by Prof. Dr. Supawan Tantayanon, Thailand. The lecture which was held in the O2 Fmipa building was attended by all chemistry lecturers and several Chemistry student representatives from each class on Tuesday (16/07).

Dr. Anugrah Ricky Wijaya as secretary of the Chemistry Department opened the public lecture. This Small Scale Chemistry, he explained, is a kind of technique where the aim is to use a minimum of chemicals so that the waste produced is also small, but does not change its essence.

"So far, we use conventional practicum, which in fact requires a lot of materials and produces a lot of waste. I think this is very innovative, especially for learning for students, easy and simple to practice but has the same essence, "he added.

Prof. Dr. Supawan explained four important points in the guest lecture, namely the introduction of Small Scale Chemistry, Dow Chemistry Class, BBL-CST Small Scale Chemistry in Asean, Development of Small Kit. "According to the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), Small Scale is a reduction in the use of chemicals to a minimum level where experiments can be carried out effectively. For example using inexpensive equipment and then modified according to simple experiments performed, such as for titration, ammonia pelartan, CuSO electrolysis.4 and a simple pH indicator, "he said.

This Small Scale Chemistry is indeed suitable to be practiced in learning Chemistry in schools. This will be very useful because MUs produce teachers for junior and senior high school students in Indonesia, so that they will later be able to practice this technique with their students.
