Poor. State University of Malang (UM) is in mourning, Thursday (10/09) Prof. Drs. H. Effendy, M. Pd., Pd. D, one of the professors of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), died at the age of 64. The body was laid to rest in his hometown, in Wandanpuro village, Bululawang sub-district, Malang regency at 11.00 WIB.

UM Rector, through the Head of Public Relations Sub Division Ifa Nursanti, S. AP, revealed that Prof. Effendy did not die from Covid-19 but received treatment with a diagnosis of sepsis and multiple organ failure. "The deceased passed away at Saiful Anwar Hospital (RSSA) Malang City at 08.30 WIB," he explained.

As a professor in the field of chemistry, he played a very big role in building science in the chemistry department of UM so that it became a reference throughout Indonesia. Initially, the S-3 Chemistry Study Program was only at UM. His contribution to learning in SMA is also very large, many chemistry books were born from his hands, both in Indonesian and English. Likewise with books for universities

There is an interesting story that Dr. Munzil, M. Si, the Coordinator of the Science Education Study Program, said that he designed and printed his own books so they could be sold cheaply. So that his books can be obtained in good quality, but at affordable prices.

"He is a very humble figure, likes to guide young people, and has strong integrity," he said, remembering the figure of Prof. Effendy. Winner of the 2012 Habibie Awards for the field of basic science, has a big role in building an academic cult at UM. Among his other achievements is a leading Islamic researcher in the field of crystallogy, inventor of 730 new compounds, H index Scopus 14, author of productive books in the inorganic field and the most productive publication at UM, even one of the most productive in Indonesia.

One more thing that will not be forgotten about him is that he really enjoyed his profession as a lecturer. the lecture will always be overload  which should be 2 hours of lecture, it could be 4 hours. The important thing is that students still like to follow his lecture. "We really miss him" said Dr. Munzil softly.
