- UM has a logo in the shape of a square and rectangle in which there is an inscription formed from 3 (three) curved lines of interlocking circles in blue green and gold yellow and the words "The Learning University" in dark blue or white.
- The UM logo is a verbal symbol of UM's identity to inspire the spirit and image of UM and to mark the spirit of UM's independence. The UM logo is inspired by the universal insight of lifelong learning, lifelong education for all education and education for sustainable development; and insight into the basic principles of cultural education in Indonesia as well as nurture ing ngarsa sung tuladha ing madya build karsa and tut wuri handayani.
- The UM logo has the following meanings:
- writing UM stands for State University of Malang;
- 3 (three) curved lines have the meaning of implementing tridharma as a form of UM's contribution to regional and local national global development;
- the linked circle means a continuous learning process at UM and implies a close and positive relationship between academics and society;
- the words "The Learning University" have the meaning of a verbal symbol which describes the orientation of UM as a learning organization and a learning resource:
- as a learning organization, UM is a higher education institution that continually develops an organization capable of creating a future through lifelong learning and making continuous changes based on shared values and principles;
- as a learning resource UM is a higher education institution that provides the widest possible access to learning for all levels of society in realizing lifelong learning;
- the blue color means a young soul who continues to learn to advance;
- the green color means campus which is a place for academicians to live and grow;
- the yellow gold color means glory and energy; and
- The dark blue color means stability and depth in the implementation of tridharma at UM.
