Poor. 1st International Conference on Social Studies and Environmental Issues (ICOSSEI) 2019 is a biennial conference on the study of social and environmental issues. This event was organized by the Social Science Education Study Program (IPS), Faculty of Social Sciences, State University of Malang (FIS UM) on September 19, 2019 at the Ijen Suite Hotel Malang. In its implementation this conference is supported by HISPISI (Association of Social Science scholars), APRIPSI ((Social Science Study Program Forum), FOGIPSI (Social Science Study Teacher Forum), and MGMP (Subject Teacher Conference), which provide international forums in the field of social and environmental sciences for researchers, academics, professionals, and students from around the world for a variety of perspectives.

The organization of this conference has three objectives including the first to provide a platform for researchers, academics, practitioners, and professionals from all fields of study from around the world to present their research results and development activities in the field of social studies and environmental issues. The second objective is to form an international forum. where all participants have the opportunity to share ideas, experiences, expertise, and knowledge about global issues of educational practice, especially in social studies.

Another objective of holding this conference is the development with great care to create and implement educational values and environmental issues in this disruptive era, and to facilitate all institutions (organizations) to build business relationships for their future development.

A one-day conference on the theme "Strengthening the Roles of Social Studies and Promoting Environmental Issue in Disruption Era" it has several sub themes in between Social Studies in Disruption Era, Learning Innovation in Social Studies Media, Digital, and Information Literacy in Social Studies, Eco-pedagogy and Critical Pedagogy in Social Studies, Environmental Issues in Industrial Revolution 4.0.

Four keynote speakers who are competent in their fields have been invited to be the main speakers in this international conference. The four speakers are Bronwyn Elizabeth Wood, Ph. D from Victoria University of Wellington New Zealand, Kanako N. Kusanagi, Ph. D from the University of Tokyo Japan, Assoc. Prof. Edo Han Siu Andriesse, Ph. D from Seoul National University South Korea, and Syamsul Bachri, Ph.D from Malang State University (UM).

Chairman of ICOSSEI Idris, SS, MM stated that this international conference brought together academics, professionals, entrepreneurs, researchers, students and other related groups from around the world who have an interest in theory and practice in the fields of social studies, educational management, learning innovation, technology. in learning, and environmental issues, as well as education related to these special fields, to present and share their work.

ICOSSEI 2019 warmly welcomes contributors from various fields of social studies to join this international forum. It is estimated that various researches and applied topics will be discussed during the conference, ”continued this Social Science lecturer at FIS UM.

Kanako N. Kusanagi, Ph. D from the University of Tokyo Japan who delivered material entitled The Era of Disruption and The Implementation of “Tokkatsu” in Indonesia stated that in this disruptive era, we continue to face challenges from a changing world. The role of education is no longer limited to the transfer of knowledge and skills.

“As represented by Sustainable Development Goal 4, Education for Sustainable Development, the role of education is growing to prepare youth who can not only cope with rapidly changing social conditions but also have the capacity to transform societies to be more sustainable. Not surprisingly, equipping the next generation with skills such as discipline, ethics and morality has become a priority for international educators, "he said.

"It is in this context that there is interest in" tokkatsu, "Japan's holistic approach to educating children. In this presentation, tokkatsu is presented as a promising approach to address some serious problems in the Indonesian education system, with a focus on developing social skills, ethical frameworks, and values for the next generation of Indonesia, "said the lecturer who has worked with many teachers in Indonesia. since 2004.
